Why Media

Keele’s media courses rank top-10 in England for student satisfaction (NSS 2023), while graduates place in the UK’s top-15 for employment. These results stem partly from access to the Media Suite—a dedicated space equipped with professional film, sound, and imaging gear. Beyond this, the university arranges industry placements and client projects, plus the option to spend a year at a partner institution abroad, which helps students build both theoretical knowledge and the hands-on experience employers value.

Media and Communications

The Media and Communications BA (Hons) blends critical analysis with creative production and professional practice. As participants explore visual media, audio, and digital formats, they encounter topics ranging from storytelling and filmmaking to audience research and how media intersects with climate change and politics. Professional shooting equipment enables them to develop strong portfolios, while flexible modules open doors to placements, real client work, and festival organization—preparing graduates for careers in creative industries and related fields.

Media and Business Management

At Keele, Media with Business Management BA (Hons) merges media skills with commercial know-how. Alongside creating content for film and digital platforms, participants learn to apply data analysis and digital tools when making decisions. The emphasis on sustainability, ethics, and leadership shapes specialists who can champion social justice and challenge distortions in media, while live projects and placements let them apply what they’ve learned from early on.

Digital Media at Keele University

Digital Media BA (Hons) covers Data and Design, Social Media Culture, Content Creation, and audience research. Three interconnected components—critical theories of digital industries, platform analysis, and hands-on content creation—form a comprehensive understanding of the digital ecosystem. This approach helps participants become responsible digital citizens capable of positively influencing communities, while optional modules include placements, client projects, and event organization, balancing theory with practical experience.

Media, Communications and Culture

Keele’s Media, Communications and Culture PhD/MPhil focuses on interdisciplinary research with a strong emphasis on practice-based inquiry. Access to a digital editing suite and exhibition space supports audiovisual projects, while core research themes include cultural memory, digital media, and social movements—from anti-capitalist activism to representation of religious minorities. Within this course, participants can pursue both conceptual and practice-oriented work.

Digital Media and Society

The Digital Media and Society MA prepares specialists in the social and economic impact of digital technologies. As participants examine AI and emerging tech, they master digital storytelling, analytics, and social media content creation. The Extended Project module lets them choose their final format—whether dissertation, creative portfolio, or collaboration with an industry partner—while an optional Work Placement in creative sectors expands professional networks and opens paths toward entrepreneurship or freelancing.
