Why Art and Design at UEL
The university’s creative programs consistently earn strong student ratings and industry recognition, reflecting genuine quality. Design courses at University of East London ranked first in London for learning opportunities in the 2023 National Student Survey, while fashion and textiles came ninth nationally for teaching satisfaction according to the Guardian University Guide 2025. The campus offers extensive facilities—from cutting and sewing studios to laser cutting and 3D printing equipment, robotics, film production labs, and Mac studios—allowing students to experiment across different media as they develop their visual voice.
Fashion Design
BA (Hons) Fashion Design prepares designers who can reshape the industry rather than simply follow trends. The program grounds students in creative industry history while teaching them to work with sustainable materials, ethical practices, and cultural diversity—skills that now define success in saturated markets. First-year students build technical foundations with Adobe Suite and WGSN, understanding business processes and global supply chains. By the third year, they focus on independent projects and industry collaboration, developing professional portfolios and strategies for launching their own brands.
Fashion Marketing and Communication
BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing and Communication teaches students to create marketing strategies for the global fashion ecosystem, crafting narratives for diverse audiences across multiple platforms. The curriculum includes practical skills in event planning and visual merchandising, photography and graphic design through InDesign—building a versatile competency set. Its applied character and industry connections stand out: second-year students can undertake placements while modules cover digital marketing, creative direction, visual communications, and consumer behavior analysis.
Animation at University of East London
BA (Hons) Animation cultivates both individuality and professionalism in animation practice, teaching students to create compelling stories, design characters and environments, and select optimal animation methods for each project. First-year work establishes core techniques and narrative skills, while the second year develops personal creative approaches through handmade, traditional, and digital media. By their final year, students gain deep understanding of animation’s social and cultural context through practical work, studio visits, and professional encounters—helping them become distinctive voices in their chosen field.
