Academic Program for Years 7-8

Students aged 11-13 begin their journey at Austin House, a dedicated division where they work with specialist teachers in small classes while accessing the main campus’s laboratories, studios, and theater. The curriculum spans mathematics, sciences, English, and PE, alongside subjects like:

  • Art
  • Computer Science
  • Design and Technology
  • Drama
  • French
  • Geography
  • History
  • Music
  • Religious Studies
  • Spanish

Homework happens on-site under staff supervision, and progression to senior years requires no additional testing—the focus remains on learning rather than assessment.

Middle School and GCSE at Worth School

GCSE preparation begins early here, with courses starting in Year 9 rather than Year 10. This gives students aged 13-16 more time to engage deeply with their subjects. At this stage, biology, chemistry, and physics are taught separately, while German becomes available alongside or instead of French and Spanish. Latin and music shift to optional status.

By Year 10, students select 9-10 exams from both required subjects—mathematics, English (or ESL for international learners), religious studies, and sciences in single, double, or triple award—and options including:

  • Art
  • Business
  • Computer Science
  • Design and Technology
  • Drama
  • Geography
  • History
  • Latin
  • Music
  • Photography
  • Sports Science

Pre-IB for International Students

Worth School’s one-year Pre-IB program welcomes 15-16 year olds educated abroad who need time to adapt to British academic standards. Over an intensive year, they complete 5-7 IGCSE qualifications in English, mathematics, at least one science, and a foreign language, with choices like geography, history, or religious studies rounding out their studies. Throughout this period, they live in boarding houses, join sports teams and clubs, and receive mentoring support—experiencing the full rhythm of British boarding school life before moving into their final years.

IB Diploma and A Levels

Senior students aged 16-18 choose between the IB Diploma and A Levels. The Diploma, offered here for two decades with an average score of 36 points (equivalent to four A* grades at A Level), requires six subjects—three at higher level, three at standard—drawn from different knowledge areas. This combines with an extended essay, Theory of Knowledge course, and the CAS project integrating creativity, athletics, and service.

A Levels offer over 20 disciplines. Beyond core options like mathematics (including further maths), English literature, biology, chemistry, and physics, students can explore:

  • Art and Design
  • Business
  • Computer Science
  • Design and Technology
  • Drama and Theatre Studies
  • Chinese
  • Classical Latin
  • Media Studies
  • Music
  • Music Technology
  • German
  • Politics
  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Sports Science
  • Philosophy, Ethics and Theology
  • Photography
  • French
  • Geography
  • Spanish
  • History
  • Economics

Most students take three subjects and may add an independent research project (EPQ) of 5,000 words. BTEC Business provides a practice-oriented alternative for those preferring applied learning.
