Battle Abbey School Curriculum Overview

As students attending Battle Abbey School, we’re part of an environment that believes in shaping not just our minds but our futures too. Here’s an exploration of the curriculum that guides us through our learning journey.

Primary Education at the Prep School

For those of us who started our journey in the youngest years, the Prep School offered something quite unique with the BAS Tapestry curriculum. From as young as six months, we were part of a system designed to recognize and nurture our individual abilities and interests. What stood out was the emphasis on maintaining small class sizes. It felt like being part of a large family where everyone knew each other. The facilities, including the swimming pool, astro, and the STEAM room, played a large part in giving us a diverse and engaging educational experience. Not to forget, the school included a vast range of extracurricular activities within the standard fee and provided extended supervision hours, which was a boon for our families.

Advancing to Secondary Education

Moving up to the Senior School, we noticed a shift as the curriculum broadened at the Key Stage 3 level. With fewer of us in each class, the school managed to create a tailored learning experience. We dove into a variety of subjects like English, Math, Science, and more, with options for languages including French and Spanish. Physical Education wasn’t just a mandatory class but a part of shaping our overall wellbeing. The school also introduced us early on to career awareness and personal development through its PSHE program, adding depth to our academic experience. Clubs and societies became a part of our daily lives, helping develop our interests beyond the classroom.

Transition to Sixth Form Education

Reaching Sixth Form was like stepping into an environment crafted for our imminent future. With guidance on university applications and subject choices, we felt supported in every step towards our higher education goals. Offering a vast array of GCSE, A Level, and BTEC subjects alongside extracurricular activities, the school ensured we had every opportunity to excel and discover our passions. Special mention must go to the Oxbridge Coordinator, who has been invaluable for those among us aiming for Oxford or Cambridge, providing everything from guidance lessons to interview training. Our Sixth Form mentors deserve all the praise for steering us through challenges and preparing us for life beyond school.

A Note on School’s Ethos and Success

Our school’s blend of traditional values with modern teaching methods, strong pastoral care, and an atmosphere that feels like family, stands testament to its commitment towards nurturing compassionate leaders. We take pride in being part of a community where the majority of us move on to our first-choice universities, with many heading to prestigious Russell Group Institutions.

In summary, as students of Battle Abbey School, we’re given a holistic and personalized learning experience right from our primary years through to Sixth Form. This journey is designed with a clear focus on nurturing not just academic excellence but also our personal growth, preparing us to be the responsible global citizens of tomorrow.
