Individual Tutors

At Bedales School, each student is assigned a personal tutor who monitors their academic progress. These tutors hold one-on-one meetings and small group sessions, creating an environment of openness, high expectations, and close-knit support. Student progress is carefully tracked, and academic reviews are conducted twice a year. These reviews include student reflections on their progress and are shared with parents to ensure alignment of priorities and strategies for the student’s academic journey.

Additionally, every student has a house parent who looks after their overall well-being and regularly communicates with the student’s tutor and parents to support the student’s welfare.

Academic Enrichment at Bedales School

Bedales School offers a rich and engaging environment that goes beyond the usual school curriculum. The school implements an academic enrichment program across the curriculum to provide ample challenges for the most capable students. This program includes additional visits, talks, and academic societies.

The enrichment program has two main goals: to ensure all students are sufficiently challenged by the opportunities they receive in and out of the classroom, and to open up opportunities for anyone who wants to challenge themselves.

Unique 3i Program at Bedales School

Bedales School has a unique program known as the 3i program, which stands for “intellect, initiative, and individuality.” This program encourages students to engage, work hard, persevere, and improve, fostering a “growth mindset.” All academic scholars automatically become participants in the program, and individual departments can identify suitable students in their subject areas throughout the year.

Importantly, any other student at Bedales School can also nominate themselves to participate in the program. 3i students receive a weekly email newsletter, which may prompt them to attend a lecture by an external speaker or participate in a national poetry translation competition.
