Historical Roots and Campus

Bedales School, founded in the picturesque South Downs National Park, occupies 120 acres of land in Steep, near Petersfield, Hampshire. The school’s founder, John Badley, moved it from Lindfield, West Sussex, to its current rural location in Hampshire in 1900.

This move was strategically significant to ensure that students could continue to enjoy clean air and a deep connection with nature. The campus is not just a place for education but also a haven of nature, featuring orchards, woodlands, pastures, and even a dedicated nature reserve, making the rural landscape central to the educational process.

Comprehensive Facilities at Bedales School

Bedales School boasts an impressive array of facilities shared among its three schools, including a full-size astro-turf with floodlighting and a sports hall capable of hosting eight badminton courts, along with indoor cricket nets. Modern amenities include an indoor swimming pool, two fitness gyms, a multi-gym, and six floodlit netball/tennis courts.

The school’s commitment to sports is evident with 17 acres of playing fields, including cricket and football pitches. Additionally, the campus is equipped with exceptional IT facilities, ensuring wireless coverage throughout the area.

Architectural Diversity at Bedales School

The architectural landscape of Bedales School is as diverse as its natural surroundings. An eclectic mix of buildings adds a unique charm to the school. From bespoke-designed modern classrooms at Bedales Prep, Dunhurst, and Bedales Pre-prep, Dunannie, to the Grade I listed Lupton Hall and Memorial Library, the campus architecture represents a blend of tradition and innovation.

The Olivier Theatre and the Art and Design building are award-winning modern structures that complement Bedales School’s commitment to the arts. The school also actively engages in renting out its facilities, offering them for residential conferences during school holidays and non-residential events throughout the year, with special rates for local community groups.
