Leisure Program

The leisure program at Bedales School Prep is designed to create a family-like atmosphere for boarders. Activities are held every evening, including treat nights on Tuesdays and special events on Fridays, such as dance competitions, themed dress-up nights, and quiz evenings.

Weekends at Bedales School are filled with trips and experiences—from visiting cultural landmarks and beaches to engaging in adventures like sailing, kayaking, and paintball. A unique feature of the program is “Home Time,” where every evening students spend an hour on activities they might do at home, such as baking, playing with Lego, or taking a walk.

Weekends at Bedales School

At Bedales School, boarders have the option to stay on campus during weekends, except for long leave weekends or term breaks. However, they also have the opportunity to go home. Boarders in groups (grades 4-6) can leave from 4:30 PM on Friday after lunch, while those in blocks (grades 7-8) can leave after morning lessons at 12:50 PM on Saturday. For boarders heading home on Saturday, Bedales School offers a train option to London Waterloo and back.

Activities for Senior Students

From the moment they join the school, students are encouraged to engage in the broader life of the community. They can join the choir, orchestra, or band, participate in theatrical productions, or write for a publication. The activity program is open to all students and offers a wide range of intellectual, social, and physical activities. Sixth form students even have the opportunity to lead some of these activities.

Bedales School also offers a sports program, academic societies, a local voluntary service program, and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. The activity schedule is divided into two time slots: Badley Time (3:10-4:10 PM) and Powell Time (7-8:15 PM).

Bedales Cricket Club

Bedales has a rich cricketing history, with competitions held at all age levels for both boys and girls. Matches are traditionally played every Wednesday for Bedales Prep, Dunhurst, and on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for Bedales Senior. The school also has a thriving alumni team, Stoner Cricket Club, and a staff/parents team, Gentlemen of Bedales. The cricket program includes a winter training program and an annual tour to Dorset for boys and girls under 13.
