Boarding Education

Bradfield offers a distinctive boarding experience that eases the transition from prep to senior school. All first-year students (Year 9) live together in Faulkner’s, where a homely atmosphere prevails. This house accommodates around 170 pupils who thrive in an environment of energy, enthusiasm, and care, guided by the motto “Work hard. Get involved. Be kind.” It creates a supportive space where newcomers can settle in while building lasting friendships.

Smooth Transition to Bradfield College

The college recognizes that moving from prep to senior school presents real challenges, which is why Faulkner’s exists. By creating this nurturing environment, Bradfield ensures exceptional pastoral care during this pivotal period. Students benefit from dedicated staff who understand their needs, helping them adjust to new academic demands while maintaining their confidence and well-being throughout the year.

Senior Boarding Houses

After their year in Faulkner’s, students move to one of eleven senior houses for the remaining four years. These houses—four for girls and seven for boys—offer excellent living conditions supported by specialist teams. Each house has its own housemasters or housemistresses, matrons, house tutors, and academic mentors who work together to create a strong community where students can flourish both personally and academically.

Day Students at Bradfield College

Around 10% of Bradfield students are day pupils, fully integrated into boarding life. They participate in all aspects of college activities, often staying for evening events and prep sessions. This integration means they experience the same community spirit and opportunities as their boarding peers. Over time, many choose to become full boarders, drawn by the immersive environment that Bradfield offers.

Comprehensive Experience

Life in Bradfield’s boarding houses extends family life rather than replacing it, with rigorous attention paid to safety and well-being. The college provides holistic education that balances academic achievement with extensive co-curricular programs in sport, drama, music, and other areas. This approach ensures students develop diverse skills and interests while forming the strong relationships that will sustain them beyond their school years.
