Multilingual Environment

The British School of Geneva places a high value on multilingualism. For the school, it is not just a sign of cultural diversity, but a crucial element in their educational approach. Teaching multiple languages helps students to better understand and respect other cultures. The belief here is that it fosters mutual understanding and closer interaction among students.

Diversity at the British School of Geneva

Students from over 70 countries study at this school. Within its walls, one can hear 60 different languages. This creates a unique atmosphere where everyone feels part of a large international community. The school supports the development of students’ native languages and encourages them to learn other global languages. This helps students to be more open and adaptable to different cultures.

Languages Offered

The primary languages at the British School of Geneva are English and French. However, for those who wish to develop their language skills further, there are opportunities to study German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and even Japanese. Additional special languages can also be available for an extra fee. Such offerings are numerous, and each helps students choose the most interesting and useful direction for themselves.

A-Level Courses

For senior students, A-Level courses in English Philology and French are available. Courses in other languages can also be offered upon request. This helps deepen their knowledge and prepare them for future careers or higher education.

Assessment and Qualification

Upon admission to the British School of Geneva, every new student fills out a questionnaire to create a language profile. Oxford and Password EAL tests are also used. This system helps determine the initial level of knowledge and set goals. The school aims for every student to achieve at least a B2 level in English.

Language Programs

Through the ISP International Learning Opportunities (ILOS) program, students gain real experience in communicating in different languages. By participating in cultural exchanges, filmmaking workshops, and debates, they can apply their knowledge in practice. These activities make the language learning process not only interesting but also rich.

Parental Support

The school provides parents with access to practical guides, webinars, and resources to facilitate home learning. This helps create a comfortable environment in which the child can develop not only in the educational institution but also at home, using modern methods and expert advice.

Educational Approach

At the British School of Geneva, languages are integrated into various school subjects. This creates an inclusive and multi-level environment where every child can find their place. The curriculum is designed so that languages and culture are an integral part of everyday learning.

Advantages of Multilingualism

Multilingualism opens many doors for students. It helps them become more desirable in the job market, supports leading a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, and develops an active civic stance. Additionally, multilingualism promotes social integration, making communication simpler and more natural.
