Studying at the British School of Malaga

The British School of Malaga (BSM) is a multicultural educational institution that seamlessly combines the English National Curriculum with Spanish language instruction. The goal is to foster a global perspective among students aged 3 to 18.

English National Curriculum

At the British School of Malaga, the English National Curriculum is proudly implemented, renowned worldwide for its academic excellence. All instruction is conducted in English by a team of native-speaking, British-qualified teachers.

This curriculum is designed to be creative, practical, and skills-oriented, promoting independence and responsibility among students. It’s widely recognized and used in many countries, making it easier for families who relocate internationally.

Multicultural Environment

The school is a vibrant blend of British and Spanish cultures. Alongside a strong emphasis on English, students learn Spanish, enhancing their global understanding. Spanish lessons begin in primary school, covering subjects like Spanish language and social studies, and continue into secondary school with geography and history.

In the Sixth Form, an A-level program with a highly specialized and flexible approach allows students to focus on their interests and strengths.

Primary Education

In the primary section, the British National Curriculum is followed. Core subjects include mathematics, English, sciences, and Spanish. Students have daily lessons in literacy, numeracy, and Spanish, with science and other subjects taught regularly throughout the week.

The curriculum encourages active learning, caters to individual needs, and fosters a drive for success. Students are motivated with rewards such as certificates, points, and prizes, celebrating their achievements.

Secondary School and Sixth Form

The secondary school builds on the foundations of the National Curriculum, with a strong emphasis on the Spanish language and humanities. Students also have the option to learn French or German. During Key Stage 4, they prepare for their IGCSE exams in various subjects.

In the final two years (Sixth Form), students focus on advanced level courses (A-levels) in their chosen subjects. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning, contribute to community life, and grow as individuals.
