Electives at Bromsgrove offer a wonderful opportunity to develop talents using the school’s extensive facilities.
Clubs
Like other British schools, Bromsgrove builds development on three pillars, one being interest-based communities. Over 30 clubs operate here, covering academic pursuits, creative endeavors, crafts, and hobbies. Among them runs a debate society that regularly represents the school at local competitions, regional debates at Oxbridge, and international meetings of the European Youth Parliament.
Trips
Bromsgrove organizes numerous cultural trips, drawing on the area’s rich heritage. Students regularly visit the Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, and exhibitions at the National Centre. Geography and biology classes include field trips and expeditions that take learning beyond classroom walls. International exchanges with European schools form another vital strand, where students share experiences and discover different cultures firsthand.
Music
Music at Bromsgrove exists across amateur and professional levels. Students work in a dedicated music school equipped with classrooms, rehearsal spaces, and studios. They can sing in musicals, play in orchestral and contemporary ensembles, earn scholarships, and perform at major British and international venues. Those pursuing professional training can take ABRSM and Trinity exams before applying to conservatoires like RCM, RAM, RNCM, or Birmingham. The choirs here are particularly strong—classical and chapel choirs perform in York, Gloucester, and Windsor cathedrals, Bath and Pershore abbeys, and St George’s Chapel.
Theatre
Theatre at Bromsgrove benefits from exceptional infrastructure. A 300-seat theatre hosts productions ranging from Sophocles to Shakespeare to contemporary musicals. Where Cobham Hall once stood, a drama house now features fully equipped technical rooms, a stage, and auditorium, alongside the Bromsgrove School Performance Studio with dressing rooms, set design workshops, and prop-making spaces. The historic Routh Hall has been transformed into a concert hall with outstanding acoustics, next to which sits the music school with teaching rooms, a recording studio, rehearsal spaces, and a foyer.
