Living

Bromsgrove School combines excellent facilities with a genuinely family-like approach to student care. The campus spreads across 100 hectares in Worcestershire, near Stratford-upon-Avon—Shakespeare’s birthplace. Thirteen boarding houses accommodate around 60 students each, except for two Sixth Form residences, which are smaller. Boys and girls study separately until Sixth Form, when they join mixed classes, so there are six boys’ houses, five girls’ houses, and two co-ed residences.

Student Body and Accommodation

The school educates 1,090 pupils across its preparatory, primary, and secondary divisions. The senior school has 670 students, nearly half of whom board. Boys make up 60% of the student body, girls 40%. Room arrangements follow a typical pattern: the oldest students occupy single rooms (about a third), another third shares with two or three peers, while younger pupils live in larger groups.

Daily Routine

Students wake shortly after 7 AM, leaving almost two hours before classes begin. They return to their houses around 6:30 PM, after lessons and activities. Evening life is active but flexible—houses organize academic sessions, informal gatherings, and social events. Students often cook together in communal kitchens or simply hang out, though no one minds if someone prefers watching TV or reading alone.

Weekend Activities

Saturdays bring university preparation sessions with tutors for older students. It’s also when inter-house competitions and sports fixtures happen at local, regional, and national levels. The school’s location offers remarkable cultural access—students visit Birmingham and Stratford-upon-Avon for theatre, concerts, and exhibitions. Weekend trips might include London shopping, paintball, go-karting, or horseback riding. Sundays let students freely explore campus facilities and attend their favorite clubs.

Exeat Policy

Bromsgrove School keeps its doors open on weekends—even younger boarders needn’t leave campus on Saturdays or Sundays. During holidays, however, the school closes and students return to their families or guardians.

Dining

Holroyd Howe, the catering company, provides three daily meals tailored to students’ dietary and cultural needs. Menus rotate throughout the week, complemented by various stations where students customize their plates. British school meals tend to be more substantial than their Russian counterparts—students choose from multiple hot options, cream soups, baguettes, hot puddings, and numerous specialties.

Student Welfare

Bromsgrove School prioritizes thorough care. New students complete medical forms and register with a private clinic. A 24-hour medical center operates on campus, while six different staff categories—plus senior students—monitor everyone’s wellbeing. Day students benefit from school transportation, and during holidays, the school arranges airport transfers when needed. This attentive approach defines everything Bromsgrove School does.
