Studying

Buckswood School gives students a good British education. Students aged 11 to 18 can pick either the traditional British A-level programme and the International Baccalaureate.\

Programmes

Students are split into three groups by age. Junior School accepts students aged 11-14, then they go to GCSE (14-16 years), and finish their studies in Sixth Form (16-18 years). At the end, students pick A-level or IB, and this decides how they get to university.

GCSE

You can choose from two options: the usual two-year course or a faster one-year programme. Students take six compulsory subjects plus three electives. If your English isn’t good enough, you take an extra language class instead of the required foreign language. Parents get weekly updates on progress, and final exams for all subjects happen in May and June. To successfully complete the course students need to achieve at least grade 5 (equivalent to a 0).

A-level

This programme takes two years and students pick three to four subjects, then take UCAS examinations. Along with regular classes, students have one-on-one meetings with teachers. Unlike many British schools, Buckswood offers an extended choice: students study 15 subjects in four blocks. They pick three from the first three blocks, and the fourth block is optional.

IB

The International Baccalaureate takes two years and is known as a tough programme. Students study six disciplines: three basic ones and three harder ones. This diploma helps students get into top universities around the world and they don’t need extra entrance exams, which makes it popular with international students. Buckswood has had IB for more than six years—95% of students get their degree and score 33 out of 45 points on average.
