Pre-University Preparation

Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts offers two distinct pre-university pathways that reflect different learning philosophies. The Extended Diploma welcomes students at 16 for a two-year journey where they initially explore various creative disciplines before choosing one of eight specializations in their second year. Meanwhile, the Foundation Diploma takes a more focused approach, requiring 17-year-olds to commit to their chosen field immediately, allowing them to dive deeper over one intensive year. Both routes lead to guaranteed places on the school’s bachelor’s programs, making progression seamless.

Eight Creative Pathways

During their specialized studies, students immerse themselves in one of eight disciplines. Design pathways include three-dimensional design with prototyping and 3D printing, architecture and interior design featuring scale modeling, and game design centered on narrative construction. Visual communications span graphic design and illustration with typography techniques, while fine art and photography encompass painting, sculpture, and darkroom work. Fashion splits into fashion design, focused on garment construction, and fashion communications, which explores branding and visual storytelling. The school also offers animation and film, where students master production techniques and motion imagery.

Bachelor’s Programs at CSVPA

Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts awards honours degrees across six creative specializations for students aged 18 and above. Fashion offers both BA Fashion, emphasizing sustainable garment construction, and BA Fashion Branding & Creative Communication, which uniquely requires no portfolio for admission. Visual communications branches into BA Graphic Design, BA Illustration, and BA Visual Communication, each with distinct technical focuses. The interdisciplinary BA Creative Intelligence & Innovation bridges new media, art, and experimental research. These three-year programs can accommodate an additional integrated Foundation year for those needing extra preparation.

Integrated Foundation Year

The school recognizes that some aspiring students need additional groundwork before tackling their chosen bachelor’s program. This optional Foundation year extends any BA program from three to four years, offering broad exposure to creative disciplines before specialization begins. Students develop technical skills alongside critical thinking and research methods, experimenting with materials while exploring creative technologies and digital media. This approach ensures they arrive at their main program with a clear creative voice and direction, making subsequent years considerably more productive.
