Performing Arts at Claremont School

The performing arts curriculum at Claremont School is crafted to enhance students’ self-confidence, self-expression, and inquisitive nature. This program encompasses drama, dance, and music, fostering a vibrant and inventive environment. In 2021, Claremont School proudly earned the title of Independent School of the Year for Performing Arts. Within this comprehensive program, students are encouraged to engage in a variety of workshops and performances, equipping them with vital skills beneficial for their academic and professional futures.

Drama Lessons

The drama studio offers a platform for students to express their creativity and acquire important life skills. It promotes free thought and embraces a variety of perspectives, allowing students to not only thrive as individuals but also to explore different roles and scenarios. Drama classes serve to uncover personal talents while promoting collaboration and a sense of community among peers.

Dance Programme

In the dance program, students have the opportunity to create original performances and collaborate with industry professionals. Participants demonstrate their abilities in front of a live audience and explore a variety of dance styles, including ballet, hip-hop, and modern dance. The dance studio features a specialized floor and soundproof ceiling, providing ideal conditions for rehearsals and performances. Additionally, engaging in dance competitions plays a significant role in enriching their educational journey.

Musical Achievements

The music technology course covers recording, editing audio, and composition creation. Students participate in interdisciplinary projects, such as the Claremont Extra podcast, which gained popularity during the lockdown and features radio plays created by the students themselves. In 2021, students collaborated with the music department to create a short film, which achieved success at the ISP International Short Film Festival, winning an award for Best Production Design.

Creative Opportunities and Resources

The school champions an innovative approach that combines experiential learning with interdisciplinary studies—an educational formula designed to hone both critical thinking acumen and emotional intelligence in its scholars. Centrally located within the campus are state-of-the-art facilities: a sleek performing arts complex boasting a 220-capacity venue, alongside a music conservatory that hums with activity. This is supplemented by an array of art studios—spaces where diverse artistic languages come to life under the guidance of passionate educators.

Visual Arts and Projects

From its earliest stages, Claremont Junior fosters visual literacy as a foundational skill. Young learners dive into the rich tapestry of art’s vocabulary, their talents blossoming in various mediums and contexts. This exploration finds synergy with the drama department through collaborative projects that fuse imagination with expression. The year is punctuated by vibrant celebrations like the Spring Soirée—an annual showcase where music and theatrical performances take center stage. These events serve as a catalyst for students to express their burgeoning talents, gain invaluable experience, and step into the limelight of self-discovery.
