Philosophy of the Extracurricular Programme
At Cobham Hall, the extracurricular programme embraces holistic development, allowing students to explore their potential across diverse areas—from athletics and arts to academic debates and musical performance. This approach means that the same person scoring the winning goal at netball might be passionately representing their country at a Model UN General Assembly. Through club participation, young people discover unexpected talents while developing essential life skills: teamwork, negotiation, resilience, and confidence. Whether joining a sports section or creative studio, each offers space to unwind and enjoy what they love.
Creative Studios
The art department houses a photography darkroom, ceramic kiln, and Mac studio where students engage with sculpture, painting, clay work, and photo projects. Senior students can work in these studios until late evening, while those preparing for GCSE and A Level exams receive weekly supplementary sessions. Theatrical life extends beyond annual productions through LAMDA programmes (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art), covering everything from acting to public speaking and verse recitation. These lead to official examinations from Grade 1 through Grade 8, with top grades earning UCAS points for university admission. The school choir welcomes everyone, while the Benesonantes chamber ensemble performs at concerts locally and tours Eastern Europe.
Cobham Hall Sports Sections
The sports programme centres on seasonal activities: netball, hockey, and swimming during winter; tennis, rounders, and athletics in summer. Regular inter-school competitions keep everyone engaged, while the pool opens three times weekly for free swimming. Senior students access the fitness centre and dance studio after lessons and on weekends. Many achieve remarkable results—competing at Horse of the Year Show, Kent cross-country championships, or even representing Great Britain in triathlon. External partnerships further develop talent:
- Horse riding at the local riding school
- Tennis with professional coaches and Tennis Academy
- Golf at Rochester & Cobham Golf Club
- Trampolining with professional trainers
Clubs and Leadership
Academic clubs broaden horizons through biannual humanities forums discussing current global issues. Carson Club focuses on sustainability, world cinema club explores different cultures, while Creative Writing Club and the Media Team nurture storytelling abilities. Senior students don’t just participate—they create and lead clubs, developing their own leadership qualities. Art scholars run art clubs for younger students, and Year 11 pupils established a discussion club helping peers follow current events and form their own views on important issues.
