Beyond the Classroom

Music, Sports, and Horseback Riding

Eerde International Boarding School Netherlands runs an extra activities program that lets students pursue their passions alongside academics. Individual music lessons cover piano, drums, and guitar, while choral singing and musical theater give all students a chance to perform. Nearby riding stables partner with the school to offer riding lessons, competitive training, or even stabling for those who bring their own horses. Sports range from football and hoops to racket games, golf, and CrossFit, with school teams often playing in inter-school matches throughout the Netherlands—something that pushes students to sharpen their skills while connecting with peers from other international institutions.

Events at Eerde International Boarding School

Twice a year, the school holds Week Without Walls, shifting focus from theory to hands-on teamwork beyond the grounds. The first edition, early in the academic year, uses group activities to help newcomers bond with classmates and teachers at the start. The second offers a choice: skiing trips, volunteer projects, or local excursions, ensuring everyone finds something that resonates. Cultural diversity also shapes the calendar—over 25 nationalities inspire events like Pot Luck Lunch during International Week, when students share dishes from home, plus Santa Lucia, Lunar New Year, Halloween with a “haunted castle” tour, and Dutch Sinterklaas.

Partnership with Rijksmuseum and Model UN

Collaboration with Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum gives students direct access to works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Frans Hals—not as passive visitors but as active members in co-designed learning sessions that bring art history into the curriculum. Meanwhile, the Model United Nations debate club invites older students to take on representative roles, analyzing real world issues from assigned nations’ perspectives. Once a year, they attend MUN conferences hosted by other European schools, which sharpens public speaking while building cross-continental friendships among young people working on worldwide challenges together.

Other Activities and Events

Evenings and weekends bring board games, cultural outings, or wakeboarding sessions that keep the boarding group connected. While the school encourages participation in on-site options—its own gym and sports fields are open during free time—transport and outside instructors (for an added cost) can be arranged if someone wants to try activities beyond the grounds. Each year, Career Carousel invites professionals from various fields to share their journeys and insights, helping students map out post-graduation pathways through firsthand stories about what different careers actually entail.
