Philosophy of Openness and Support
Founded in 1923 by charismatic teacher Mab Bradley, Fyling Hall School became one of England’s first co-educational institutions. Bradley immediately abolished entrance exams, believing children thrive when they’re happy in a family atmosphere. Her motto—”the days that make us happy make us wise”—still defines school life today. Though academically ambitious, Fyling Hall School remains true to this philosophy, welcoming around 180 students without selective admissions and approaching each child individually.

Notably, 90% of graduates successfully passed five exams, including English and Mathematics. This preparation opens doors to leading universities—Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, University College London, Edinburgh, Bristol—as well as institutions across Canada, Poland, and Belgium.
ISI Recognition
In September 2025, Fyling Hall School underwent inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), which confirmed it meets all standards—from education and leadership to safety and student welfare. Inspectors noted that leadership has created a culture where student needs are quickly identified and addressed. The report highlighted the wellness room, where older students support younger ones, as a vivid example of peer care. Additionally, the programme adapts to each child’s needs, while the boarding community’s multinational composition enriches school life and helps non-native speakers master English.
Learning in Nature
Fyling Hall School overlooks the picturesque Robin Hood’s Bay coastline, adjacent to the North York Moors National Park. This unique setting isn’t merely scenic—teachers actively use the school’s woodland and nearby coast to develop physical confidence and artistic skills. Such an approach allows children to learn through practical interaction with nature, cultivating abilities that extend beyond traditional classroom instruction.
