Boarding Traditions

Over its century-long history, Fyling Hall School has fostered friendships that often last a lifetime. Living in boarding helps students develop independence while learning to work within a community, which naturally builds tolerance and adaptability. The school accepts boarders for a term, week, or shorter periods, creating a welcoming environment where both children and parents feel secure. For older students, this format serves as valuable preparation for university life, allowing them to immerse themselves in academics and activities while enjoying the scenic campus.

Boarding Arrangement

Students reside in two comfortable houses on campus. Girls aged 11 to 18 live in Main House, a Georgian mansion overlooking the Yorkshire coast, while boys of the same age stay in Mulgrave. Rooms accommodate 2-4 students, and the mixed-age setup creates a genuine family atmosphere. Both buildings feature WiFi, common lounges, and kitchenettes where students can prepare hot drinks or snacks. The sports hall opens in the evenings, and weekends bring a full program of activities.

Daily Schedule at Fyling Hall School

The day begins at 7:15, with breakfast at 7:45 and registration at 8:30, followed by six lessons until 16:20. Students then enjoy free time until dinner at 17:30, after which supervised homework starts at 18:30 with teachers available to help. Weekends run on a relaxed schedule—breakfast from 9:00 to 9:50, lunch at 12:30, and dinner at 17:35. The school organizes trips to historic York, water sports, golf, paintball, and coastal walks, while homework shifts to Sunday evening.

Student Care

A head chef and team prepare fresh, nutritious meals daily, sourcing meat from local supplier Radford’s and regional produce when possible. Lunch includes hot dishes with vegetarian alternatives and a salad bar, while the menu rotates fortnightly based on student feedback. Fyling Hall School accommodates all dietary requirements, from allergies to halal and vegan options. Experienced houseparents and matrons provide round-the-clock support, and students can connect with parents through school email and WiFi, with mobile phones permitted under reasonable guidelines.
