Campus in the National Park

Fyling Hall School occupies a scenic corner of the North York Moors National Park, where views stretch toward Robin Hood’s Bay. Students attend classes surrounded by trees and a private woodland spanning 47 acres, while the beach lies within walking distance. Despite this natural seclusion, the campus remains well-connected to major cities—historic coastal Whitby and Scarborough are 15 minutes away by car, York with its direct rail link to London is an hour’s drive, and Manchester International Airport is just 2.5 hours distant.

Sports Infrastructure

The school’s extensive playing fields accommodate rugby, field hockey, football, cricket, and athletics, with all-weather surfaces enabling year-round training. A large hall features a climbing wall and springy flooring suited for badminton, volleyball, tennis, basketball, netball, and strength work. Beyond these core facilities, students access eight mountain bikes with numerous trails, a grass tennis court on campus, and professional courts nearby. Younger pupils visit a pool weekly via school minibus, while sixth formers regularly use a neighboring fitness center.

Fyling Hall School Creative Studios

The music department inhabits a purpose-built structure housing rehearsal rooms, a recording studio, and diverse instruments. The Barn—a venue with stage, 100-seat auditorium, and professional sound system—hosts performances and drama lessons across all ages, while summer concerts take place in Rose Garden, an open-air theater overlooking the coast. Meanwhile, art students work in a spacious, light-filled studio equipped with a ceramic kiln, pottery wheel, and printing press. From Year 5, everyone engages with ceramics and printmaking, though A-Level students can specialize in photography, fine art, or ceramics.

Boarding Accommodation

Girls aged 11 to 18 reside in Main House, the original Georgian manor overlooking the Yorkshire coast, sharing rooms among two to four students. Boys of the same age stay in Mulgrave, where three- or four-bed rooms and communal spaces foster a family atmosphere. Sixth formers in Years 12 and 13 occupy separate wings with twin rooms, enjoying greater autonomy in their daily routines and weekends while accessing their own study center and common room.
