Theatre Arts

The drama department nurtures confidence and self-expression while helping students discover their theatrical abilities. Whether they’re drawn to acting, set design, or technical production with lights and sound, the program supports them from junior years through GCSE and A Level examinations. Talented pupils receive scholarships that include LAMDA training, professional masterclasses, and tickets to major productions. Meanwhile, the 200-seat theatre regularly hosts ambitious performances like “The Railway Children” and the rock musical “We Will Rock You.”

Musical Life

Music at Glenalmond blends hands-on performance with solid academic preparation that extends from foundation courses through GCSE level. The concert hall, featuring a Yamaha grand piano and Harrison & Harrison organ, houses three full-time teachers and seven practice rooms where students develop their craft. Beyond the classroom, they join ensembles ranging from string orchestra and jazz band to choral society and flute group. Many also perform with youth orchestras in Perth, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh, as well as the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and National Children’s Choir—regularly bringing home awards from the Perform in Perth festival.

Scottish Traditions

Bagpipes and drums pulse through campus life, with about 60 students training under world-class instructors led by the pipe band director. This heritage traces back to 1878, when the Duke of Atholl and Viscount Glenalmond granted the college a rare privilege: permission to use their family tartan for the pipe band’s ceremonial uniforms. Since then, the ensemble has performed across Britain in full regalia, keeping Scottish cultural spirit alive through spectacular public displays.

LAMDA Academy at Glenalmond College

The college champions LAMDA—a globally recognized qualification in acting, public speaking, and interpretive reading. Over the past five years, 98% of participants have earned distinction grades on their examinations. These sessions sharpen diction, build confidence, and strengthen presentation skills, while LAMDA certificates convert to UCAS points for university applications—levels 6-8 can contribute anywhere from 8 to 30 points. This makes the program both a creative outlet and a practical asset for academic advancement.
