Atmosphere

Boarding life plays a central role in shaping young people, helping them build friendships and connections while fostering empathy, respect, independence, and self-confidence. At Heathfield School, learning extends beyond classroom walls through extracurricular activities, with staff members providing round-the-clock support that helps students prepare for their future.

Weekends at Heathfield School

Weekends bring engaging sports events and activities throughout the year. Each term offers optional weekends away—four in the first term, two in the second, and three in the summer—which have replaced the previous Exeats system since September 2020. This arrangement allows boarders to stay and enjoy activities while giving day students a chance to experience boarding life.

Family Support

Family connections form an essential part of life here. Staff members share regular updates and guidance with parents, while families actively participate in school events—from theatre productions and concerts to sports fixtures. Parents are also welcome to take their daughters out for shared meals throughout the term.

House System at Heathfield School

The school offers flexible boarding arrangements, with each girl assigned to a house upon entry—sisters join the same one. Four senior houses honor inspiring women: Austen (Jane Austen, novelist), de Valois (Dame Ninette de Valois, choreographer), Seacole (Mary Seacole, Crimean War nurse), and Somerville (Mary Somerville, scientist and writer). Student captains lead competitions within each house, which develops its own atmosphere and opportunities.

Day Students at Heathfield School

Since 2015, day students have become an integral part of the community, benefiting from the same academic excellence and pastoral care. The school’s small size enables an individual approach, with flexible schedules that include breakfast and evening sessions. Day students can stay for activities or shared dinners, enjoying full access to everything boarding life provides.
