Boarding

House System

Upon joining Kensington Park School, students enter one of four houses—Fleet, Effra, Walbrook, and Tyburn, each named after London’s lost rivers. A teacher leads alongside two senior students who are elected at the end of Year 10, giving older pupils a chance to develop leadership while mentoring younger ones. This structure creates cross-age bonds and builds a family atmosphere within the broader community, with pastoral care organized around these groups. Students earn points for kindness, academics, sports, and arts, while termly inter-house competitions foster teamwork and resilience.

Boarding Conditions at Kensington Park School

Boarding opens from Year 9 (age 13+), allowing teenagers to experience independent London life within a secure setting. Princess Beatrice House sits fifteen minutes’ walk from Sixth Form and a few Tube stops from the main building, where house parents oversee wellbeing much as family would. Years 9-11 share twin or triple rooms, while Sixth Formers may request singles—all with ensuite bathrooms and small kitchens for snacks. A dining room and common areas provide space for socializing or studying, and daily check-ins plus curfew help balance academics, leisure, and safety.

Leisure and Activities

Located in the prestigious Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the boarding house grants access to London’s cultural landmarks—West End theaters, Big Ben, the London Eye, and the Tower, plus museums, galleries, and sports like padel. Fine weather brings trips to the city’s many parks, with boat rides along the Thames to Greenwich Park proving especially popular. Back at the house, game nights, chess tournaments, cooking workshops, and film screenings build camaraderie, while world holidays—Lunar New Year, Halloween, Christmas, Navruz—invite students to help the talented chef prepare dishes from various cultures.

Care and Meals

The school nurse holds morning consultations at the boarding house, offering both physical and psychological support while developing medical plans for those with particular needs and arranging local GP registration. Weekdays bring hot breakfast and dinner here, with lunch served at school; weekends offer brunch and evening meals. Specialist caterer Holroyd Howe prepares diverse menus from fresh ingredients, rotating every three weeks with themed holiday specials. Daily options include meat and vegetarian dishes, a salad bar, soup, and homemade desserts.
