Description

Since 1969, the school has welcomed children from around the world—today, students from 60 countries study across its 12-hectare campus at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama, ranging from toddlers to those eyeing Oxford and Harvard.

School Location

King’s College Soto de Viñuelas sits in the scenic suburb of Tres Cantos, just half an hour from the Spanish capital’s center. The campus brings together science labs, a swimming pool, a 400-seat theatre, and even stables with riding facilities—everything needed for academics, sports, and creative pursuits gathered in one place, where over 1,600 children from every continent create a genuinely international atmosphere.

Academic Achievement

Exam results in IGCSE, A-level, and IB Diploma consistently surpass global benchmarks and often outpace top British schools. In 2024, a British Schools Overseas inspection awarded Outstanding across every category. Each year, roughly five graduates secure places at Ivy League and Russell Group universities, many with scholarships, while alumni have competed at the Olympics and enrolled at Berklee and London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Curriculum at King’s College Soto de Viñuelas Madrid

The educational structure spans several stages, from nursery for 16-week-old infants through to final years. At the senior level, students choose between A-level and IB Diploma, both taught entirely in English—making this the only British school in Madrid offering such a program for older pupils in English, though everyone studies Spanish, French, and German from early on, guided by qualified British teachers.

Learning stages:

  • Early Years (16 weeks–5 years)—early development
  • Primary School (5–11 years)
  • Secondary School (11–18 years)
  • Sixth Form (16–18 years)—A-level or IB Diploma

Extracurricular Life

Each week at King’s College Soto de Viñuelas Madrid, more than 40 activities run—from sports sections to creative studios and academic societies. The athletic program stands out: football, basketball, swimming, tennis, horse riding, rugby, and water polo feature in national tournaments, while over 200 pupils take individual voice and instrument lessons, performing regularly in the theatre. Some graduates receive full athletic scholarships to American universities.

Additional opportunities:

  • Rhythmic gymnastics and water polo
  • Choir, orchestra, and annual musicals
  • Debates and Model United Nations
  • Dance and dramatic productions

Boarding

Tenbury House residence opened in 2011 right on campus and accommodates up to 60 pupils aged 11 to 18. Each student lives in a comfortable room with ensuite bathroom, climate control, and internet—available as single, double, or triple options. Boarders also enjoy a dining hall, lounge, cinema room, and laundry, plus access to all athletic facilities, while houseparents supervise round the clock, assist with evening homework, and organize Madrid excursions on weekends.
