A-Level Formats

Kings offers A-Level through two formats designed around different paces. The standard two-year track runs 20-25 hours weekly and accommodates September or January starters. Students who’ve completed their first A-Level year elsewhere can transfer in, while those looking to improve their exam results have a dedicated retake pathway that compresses the material into three terms.

Subjects at Kings London

Kings London’s curriculum centers on disciplines that open the widest pathways to leading universities. The core includes Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Beyond these, students can choose from specialized areas:

• Economics
• Politics
• Psychology

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) deserves special mention—this independent research project carries university weight and counts as half an A-Level under UCAS.

Class Intensity

The two-year A-Level involves roughly 7 hours of instruction per subject each week, excluding homework and independent study. Transfer students and those retaking exams work through 9 weekly hours per subject, since they need to cover the content more intensively across three terms. Learning plans adapt to what each student has already studied and where they’re headed.

Art Foundation

Kings London runs UAL Foundation Diplomas at levels three and four. Students join in September for the standard year or January for an accelerated version, with 21 weekly contact hours. The first term explores various creative practices while building a portfolio, after which students focus on their chosen specialization—architecture, interior design, fashion, textiles, graphics, photography, animation, among others. The program culminates in a final project and exhibition, with graduates continuing to institutions like UAL, Goldsmiths, UCL Slade, and Kingston.
