Career Guidance

Career support at Leweston follows the eight Gatsby Benchmarks, which guide students through employer encounters, work placements, and consultations with an in-house adviser. From Year 7, pupils explore labour market structures during social skills lessons, examining fast-growing economic sectors while practicing CV writing. The school arranges mock interviews and regularly hosts alumni mentors alongside partners such as Leonardo and Cardiff University. Every two years, a careers fair introduces sixth-formers to university-linked internships and professional courses.

Oxbridge and Top University Preparation

Leweston launches a dedicated Oxbridge Programme from Year 12: participants in the Head’s Essay Society debate complex theories, join Oxplore online sessions, and attend Oxford outreach events with individual adviser support. The published timeline runs from summer schools and personal statements in autumn of Year 12 through to the 15 October deadline. In Year 13, teachers conduct practice interviews with external experts and prepare students for entrance tests like UCAT, BMAT, and LNAT. On A-level results day each August, the team provides emergency Clearing assistance for anyone whose grades fall short of predictions.

Graduates

One 2024 leaver received five conservatoire offers—Royal Northern College of Music, Birmingham Conservatoire, Trinity College London, and the Royal Welsh College—before accepting a substantial scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music. Another that year won a place at the London School of Economics, the UK’s third-ranked university in the Complete University Guide, with results of 2 A and 2 A.

A fellow student earned 2 A and an A, ranked among the nation’s top art graduates with OCR board recognition, then secured a spot on Performance: Design and Practice at Central St Martins. Meanwhile, a 2025 graduate now studies Plant Science at the Eden Project, working in its tropical biomes and plant science laboratory.
