Wellbeing Support

Online education demands particular attention to emotional health, which is why each student at Minerva’s Virtual Academy receives a personal mentor for weekly one-on-one meetings. These sessions help children maintain focus and navigate challenges while feeling supported despite the distance. Additionally, they attend weekly 45-minute wellbeing classes where they learn to understand their emotions, build resilience, and develop confidence—skills that extend far beyond academics. Ofsted inspectors noted that this commitment to students’ inner lives forms the foundation of everything the academy does.

Enrichment Weeks

Knowledge without confidence means little. That’s why Minerva’s Virtual Academy regularly holds special enrichment weeks, during which students step away from their usual curriculum to work on creative projects, tackle real-world challenges, and strengthen friendships. Each week brings something different, with programs shaped by students’ interests and current themes. These weeks allow them to:

  • Listen to expert speakers from various fields
  • Work on collaborative team projects
  • Participate in excursions and off-site activities
  • Compete in creative competitions

Career Preparation at Minerva’s Virtual Academy

Eventually every student leaves school—some return to traditional education, others stay through A-Level exams. The career and futures program prepares children for this transition by helping them explore their strengths and interests, discover different professions, and make informed decisions about their path. Beyond theory, students develop practical skills such as writing resumes and preparing for interviews, while connecting with professionals already working in fields that interest them. The academy recognizes that success looks different for each child and helps them find their own version of it.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Minerva already runs online clubs ranging from running to filmmaking, and now adds one of British education’s most recognized accolades. In October 2025, Minerva became the first online school licensed to deliver the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. This prestigious honor recognizes the hard work, independence, and determination of Year 9 students willing to embrace a genuine challenge. The program includes standard activities: developing new skills, volunteering, and a two-day camping expedition. The extracurricular coordinator notes that many participants report increased confidence and resilience after completing it.
