A New Format for Online Schooling

Minerva’s Virtual Academy is an accredited British online school welcoming students aged 11-18 from anywhere in the world. The approach centers on flipped learning, where learners first explore theory independently through a digital platform before joining 2-3 live sessions each day. During these classes, they tackle practical tasks, discuss complex questions, and work on projects alongside their teachers. Having earned accreditation from the British Department of Education, the academy’s diplomas are recognized by universities worldwide, while its flexible schedule allows students to balance studies with professional sports, creative pursuits, or unusual time zones.

Programs at Minerva’s Virtual Academy

Minerva’s Virtual Academy covers the full cycle of British secondary education. Students can enroll in the following programs:

  • Years 7-8 (ages 11-13) — the foundational Cambridge Lower Secondary program with required subjects and a unique Carousel system that lets students explore different disciplines without long-term commitments
  • Year 9 (ages 13-14) — a transitional year following the Cambridge National Curriculum, preparing learners for the examination system of upper grades
  • IGCSE (Grades 10-11, ages 14-16) — a two-year program with Pearson Edexcel exams, including four mandatory subjects and a broad range of electives from business to psychology
  • A-Levels (Grades 12-13, ages 16-18) — the final program where students study 3-4 subjects of their choice and can additionally complete the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), an independent research project valued by Russell Group universities

A significant feature: students can take IGCSE exams remotely from home using the Pearson Remote Invigilation Service, with an examiner monitoring online so there’s no need to travel to a physical testing center.

A Personal Mentor for Everyone

Every student at Minerva’s Virtual Academy receives a personal mentor who meets with them weekly one-on-one. These sessions help track progress, set goals, and navigate challenges—whether academic or personal. Mentors are matched to individual needs, supporting professional athletes, children with developmental differences, or those experiencing anxiety. While teachers conduct lessons with cameras on and expect the same from students, the academy doesn’t pressure anyone who feels shy. Instead, it helps them gradually build confidence, allowing chat communication in the meantime—an approach that makes learning comfortable for everyone.

Global Community and Flexibility

Minerva brings together students from over 50 countries, creating a truly international environment through school clubs, collaborative projects, and even in-person meetups despite remote learning. The schedule is designed to leave time for personal interests—whether training, music, or family commitments. For graduating classes, there’s also the Futures & Careers Programme, which helps older students identify future professions, prepare for university admission, and develop career-ready skills. As a result, learners gain not only quality education but also confidence in their path and the freedom to study at their own pace.
