True North Philosophy

North Bridge House Prep School centers on the True North concept, which helps each child discover their authentic direction by exploring personal talents and interests. Through around 40 clubs and diverse trips, students experiment across different fields until they find where they naturally excel. From Year 5 onwards, specialists work individually with children to determine whether the 11+ or 13+ pathway suits them best, recognizing that nobody can thrive in something they’ve never tried.

Knowledge for Retention

Rather than skimming surfaces, North Bridge House Prep School digs deep into each subject—geography and history are taught separately, building genuine understanding and fostering interdisciplinary thinking. Starting in Year 3, students tackle Mandarin, technology and design, plus modules covering art history and film studies. They also compete in prestigious mathematics contests, work with 3D printing, receive personal devices, and study languages intensively: French is mandatory for everyone, while Latin or Spanish can be added as electives.

Class Size at North Bridge House

With an average of 20 students per class, teachers can tailor material to individual needs while maintaining meaningful relationships with each child. Classes become even smaller in the younger groups (ages 4-7) and upper years (11-13), ensuring maximum support during crucial transitions. Though the school serves over 350 students, these intimate groups preserve a family atmosphere where everyone receives genuine attention.

Staff at North Bridge House notice the small things that matter. Daily check-ins with form tutors, hallway greetings, and shared lunches build trust while teaching children social ease and confident self-expression. Form tutors take full responsibility for their students, encouraging them to explore sports, music, and arts across all areas. Eating meals together naturally develops healthy attitudes toward food alongside essential social skills.
