Middle School: GCSE Program

Students in Forms 4 and 5 prepare for GCSE exams, which they sit at the end of their fifth year. The curriculum combines core subjects with a broad range of electives, allowing them to develop diverse skills while exploring their interests. All students take English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, and Science (typically a combined course worth two GCSEs, though they can opt for three separate sciences). Religious Studies is also mandatory, alongside at least one language:

  • French
  • Spanish
  • Latin

Subject Choice and Support

Beyond these core requirements, students select additional subjects to reach a total of 10 GCSEs. Available options include:

  • Art
  • 3D Design
  • Computer Science
  • Drama
  • Geography
  • History
  • Music
  • Physical Education

Throughout this process, teachers monitor progress through regular assessments and predicted grades, helping students adjust their preparation. The school also offers consultations on study skills and literacy, while departments run extra sessions for those who need additional support.

Oratory School Sixth Form: A Level

In the sixth form, students typically pursue three subjects at A Level, with the school taking a flexible approach to subject combinations. Small class sizes enable teachers to tailor programs to individual goals, whether academic or career-focused. Particularly valuable is the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), available from the first year. This independent research develops planning, analytical, and presentation skills, culminating in either a traditional dissertation or a practical creation—perhaps a computer, telescope, or poetry anthology.

A Level Subjects

The curriculum spans diverse fields. Beyond Mathematics, Sciences, Physical Education, and English Language with Literature, students can choose from:

  • Art (painting, photography, 3D design)
  • Business (including BTEC)
  • Economics
  • Classical Civilisation
  • Latin
  • Drama
  • Geography
  • History
  • Further Mathematics
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Religious Studies
  • Music
  • Politics
  • Psychology
  • Theology, Philosophy and Ethics

Additionally, sixth formers can sit GCSE exams in music, modern European languages, or computing during their first year, and may also take an extra A Level in their native foreign language.
