Combined Cadet Force (CCF)

The CCF is a youth organisation sponsored by the British Armed Forces that provides students with opportunities to develop leadership and teamwork skills, as well as practical skills related to outdoor activities and military training. At Royal Russell School, the CCF is open to all from Year 9 upwards students, and offers a range of activities such as:

• Fieldcraft
• Map reading
• Navigation
• Shooting
• First Aid
• Drill

The CCF is a great way for students to develop confidence, resilience, and leadership skills, while also participating in exciting and challenging activities.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a prestigious programme that encourages young people to develop important life skills, such as teamwork, leadership, and communication. Students who participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award program work towards achieving Bronze, Silver, or Gold awards by completing a range of activities related to four key areas: Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and Expedition.

At Royal Russell School, the Duke of Edinburgh Award program is open to all students, and provides a structured and supportive environment for students to develop their skills and achieve their goals.

Model United Nations (MUN)

Royal Russell School hosts an annual four-day International Model United Nations Conference each October, which has been running for over 30 years. This conference was the first of its kind in a British school, and it comprises Opening Speeches, Committee Sessions, and General Assembly with Security Council in permanent session. Delegations consist of 4-6 students, and Committee size averages 50 with a maximum of 95 delegates. The majority of delegates are housed in accommodation on the School Campus with some in local hotels. The conference also includes an evening entertainment programme.

Royal Russell School also runs Model United Nations simulation to provides students with opportunities to develop their knowledge of global issues, as well as their skills in public speaking and diplomacy, and to prepare for real conference. At Royal Russell School, the MUN programme is open to all students, and offers students the opportunity to participate in conferences and debates related to a wide range of global issues.

Royal Russell Young Drivers’ Club

Royal Russell offers a unique opportunity for its Sixth Formers to prepare for their Theory Tests and practical driving lessons with the Royal Russell Young Drivers’ Club, which is supported by Croydon Council and JEDS Driving School. The ten-week theory course is provided by the JEDS Driving Instructor Team, and students can use a range of resources, including hands-on experience in the safety of the school grounds. Once they pass the Theory Test, students can take advantage of reduced rates in practical lessons. The School’s grounds are situated around the perimeter of the School, and pupils are given the opportunity to drive off-road. Royal Russell is committed to promoting safe driving and providing students with the skills and knowledge they need to drive safely.

Participating in extracurricular programmes like the CCF, Duke of Edinburgh Award, and Model United Nations is an excellent way for students to develop important life skills, make lasting connections with their peers, and explore their interests and passions. At Royal Russell School, students are supported and guided by experienced and dedicated faculty members who are committed to helping students achieve their full potential.
