Sports Philosophy

Physical development at Sherfield School begins with the youngest students and continues through graduation. From Year 2 onwards, everyone participates in weekly swimming and PE, while Year 3 introduces a dedicated games afternoon alongside first inter-school competitions. Younger students start with fundamentals, but sixth formers get an entire afternoon block where they choose between competitive football or netball, yoga, or fitness center sessions—flexibility that helps everyone discover what suits them.

Tennis and Golf Academies

The tennis program offers three training levels, from after-school clubs to advanced squads who train ten hours weekly, including pre-lesson morning sessions. Students use six on-site courts—three hard and three AstroTurf—before moving to an indoor center with five acrylic surfaces during winter. Led by an LTA Senior Performance Coach, the academy incorporates strength training, mental strategy workshops, nutrition guidance, video analysis, and physiotherapy. Meanwhile, the golf academy operates around Sherfield Oaks, an 18-hole course adjacent to campus. Advanced players train up to four mornings weekly plus scheduled playing sessions, with UK and international tournaments fully included.

Tournament Success

In 2022, Sherfield School became national schools golf champion in the U14 category (ISGA), while 2024 saw three students claim first place in their age groups at the Hampshire County Championship. One won the prestigious Justin Rose Trophy, becoming the youngest champion in its history. Three players also reached the top 15 at the October 2025 County U18 Championship despite being U16 themselves—two were selected for the England Golf Boy’s County Qualifying tournament.
