Structure of Stages

Sherfield School welcomes children from three months old, guiding them through to eighteen. The journey begins in nursery and play groups, where curiosity shapes early foundations, before progressing through primary and middle years to GCSE examinations. The final stage brings Sixth Form with A-Level and International Advanced Diploma courses—Melbourne’s programme that prepares students for universities worldwide, completing a continuous educational path from first steps to serious academic achievement.

Individual Approach

Class sizes at Sherfield School cap at eighteen, though they’re often smaller. Teachers know each child personally and adjust the pace accordingly. Younger students dedicate time to Discovery Time, choosing activities that genuinely interest them. Mathematics follows the Maths Mastery methodology emphasizing understanding, while Accelerated Reader tracks reading progress, allowing children to advance at their own rhythm.

Enrichment Programmes at Sherfield School

From Year Five, students select two strands in the Pathway Programme—long-term projects such as robotics or publishing a bilingual book, culminating in school-wide presentations. Sixth Formers participate in Friday Enrichment sessions that include Duke of Edinburgh Award, business ventures, literary society, and environmental initiatives. Additionally, clubs refresh each term, offering languages, chess, cooking, and debates among others, with most included in tuition.

Support for International Students

Students for whom English isn’t their first language receive EAL support—five to ten hours per fortnight. The programme centers on Cambridge examinations and emphasizes the academic language needed for university. Those pursuing sciences gain access to the Up Learn platform, while international students regularly explore British culture through trips to museums, theatres, and historical landmarks.
