Extracurricular

School Rhythm

Shiplake College structures its timetable so that academics and activities outside the classroom complement each other naturally. Students dedicate at least three hours weekly to extracurriculars, plus an additional hour for academic support. Sixth formers (Years 12 and 13) participate in activities during autumn and spring terms, while summer is reserved for exam preparation. Meanwhile, Years 10 and 11 students choose one after-school activity, which helps them stay active while developing leadership skills, teamwork, and confidence.

Variety of Clubs

The college runs numerous clubs and societies that cater to different interests. Regular sessions take place on Tuesday and Friday afternoons, though some clubs meet during lunch breaks or after lessons. Options include music and drama for younger students, science club, taekwondo, Year 10 CCF, esports, Model UN, elite rowing, and:

  • Computing Club
  • Golf lessons
  • Mathematics Society
  • Volunteering and many others.

Active Leisure at Shiplake College

Boarders can stay at school over weekends and use all campus facilities. The boarding programme organizes various cultural, social, and sporting events like water polo or aquapark visits, along with:

  • Laser tag
  • Bowling
  • Go-karting
  • Pool parties with barbecues.

On Sundays, boarders can sleep until 11:30 am. Full boarding fees cover these evening and weekend activities, while day students pay separately for trips. During each term, there are “exeat weekends” when the school closes and everyone goes home, except those who’ve pre-booked boarding accommodation for that period.
