Why Ecology

Demand for sustainability specialists in the Dutch job market has doubled over recent years, and this momentum keeps accelerating. As companies, nonprofits, and governments worldwide shift toward circular economies, they need experts who can lead this transformation. Graduates from SRH Haarlem qualify for roles like sustainability analysts, circular economy consultants, environmental project managers, or business developers—professionals who assess project feasibility, engage stakeholders, develop sustainable business models, and launch their own green ventures.

Sustainable Development Management

The MSc Applied Sustainability Management offers interdisciplinary knowledge across multiple sectors—from energy and water resources to agribusiness, fashion, and healthcare. Students master sustainable entrepreneurship with a focus on economically viable green startups while learning to implement innovative business practices and manage organizational transformations. At SRH Haarlem Campus, the program emphasizes three core modules: developing sustainable entrepreneurship, crafting breakthrough practices that reshape existing business models, and leading transformational processes within organizations.

Modules at SRH Haarlem Campus

The first semester covers sustainability fundamentals, business and management, psychological aspects of transformation, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Students work through case studies from five sectors: retail, energy, agribusiness, fashion, and healthcare. This approach allows them to apply theory directly to real industry challenges. The second semester deepens into ecosystem and organizational transformation, culminating in an applied research project. New case studies include water resources, logistics, urban development, mobility, and food systems—a structure that ensures comprehensive understanding of sustainability across different contexts.

Admission Requirements

Applicants need a bachelor’s degree in business or sustainability, though those with diplomas from other fields can compensate with at least a year of relevant work experience. Language requirements include IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 79, or equivalent, although graduates from English-language programs are exempt. All candidates also complete an admission interview, where representatives from Haarlem Campus assess their motivation and ensure expectations align with what the program actually delivers. Students will need a personal laptop with basic document-processing capabilities—they receive free access to Gsuite tools, while specialized software for specific modules is listed in course syllabi.
