Campus

Location

St Edmund’s College occupies 400 acres of rolling Hertfordshire countryside near the village of Old Hall Green. This historic rural setting provides a secluded environment where students aged 3 to 18 study away from urban distractions. Beyond the academic buildings, the campus features a Forest School dedicated to outdoor learning, alongside a fruit orchard and prayer garden that have become integral to daily life as children explore their surroundings, reflect, and reconnect with nature.

Academic Facilities

Natural sciences at St Edmund’s College benefit from dedicated biology, chemistry, and physics laboratories, while creative pursuits unfold in art studios equipped with workshops for painting and sculpture. The music department houses a concert hall with a grand piano and several rehearsal rooms. Dramatic productions come together in a theater featuring professional lighting—the same space where students record radio broadcasts using Audacity. The library and IT classrooms round out this academic infrastructure, offering spaces for independent study and collaborative projects.

Sports at St Edmund’s College

An indoor heated pool, sports hall, and fitness complex remain accessible year-round at St Edmund’s College, with older students enjoying a separate gym for independent training. These facilities support the Aspiring Athlete Programme while helping everyone maintain their fitness. The campus also features an illuminated artificial pitch, tennis and netball courts, and extensive fields for team activities:

  • Football, rugby, and cricket pitches
  • Athletics tracks
  • Multi-purpose games area

Heritage

Pugin Chapel, designed by architect A.W. Pugin in 1845, serves as the college’s spiritual heart. It hosts masses, school services, and concerts by the Schola Cantorum choir, continuing traditions of an institution founded in 1568. The school museum preserves religious artifacts connected to the historic relocation from Douai, France in 1793, while boarding students reside in the historic Allen Hall and Garvey’s buildings, where common rooms provide spaces for relaxation and social connection.
