Period 7
St Edmund’s College runs Period 7, which offers over 100 clubs and sections. Students choose five weekly activities, with the roster refreshing each trimester so they can explore different interests. For older students, this program develops skills that don’t always surface during regular lessons—they lead academic societies, engage in debates, take on organizational responsibilities, and pursue what genuinely captivates them. Through these experiences, they discover their strengths while building capabilities that extend beyond the classroom.
CCF at St Edmund’s College
The CCF at St Edmund’s College has operated since 1916, encompassing army and aviation branches alongside a marching band. Weekly training sessions build confidence, teamwork, and personal accountability, while summer camps and weekend excursions—held both on campus and at military bases across the UK and internationally—add depth to the program. Participants also earn qualifications in climbing, mountain trekking, aviation, kayaking, and archery, which foster independence and equip them to handle unfamiliar challenges.
Leadership at St Edmund’s College
Senior students assume roles as house captains, prefects, and leaders of teams and clubs, gaining autonomy and learning to make decisions that shape the community around them. Some complete the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, while others rise to officer positions within the cadet corps. Sixth formers at St Edmund’s College wear business attire with ties or house badges—a visible marker of their elevated status and the responsibilities that come with it.
Trips
St Edmund’s College arranges educational and sporting trips that complement classroom learning with hands-on experiences and cultural immersion. Recent destinations have included Costa Rica, India, Iceland, New York, Barcelona, and Poland. Beyond international travel, students participate in CCF camps, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, and day outings throughout the UK. Rather than treating trips as isolated occasions, the program weaves them into the rhythm of daily life here.
