Year 7 Entry: Opening Doors to New Beginnings
The journey to joining Trent College as a Year 7 student is marked by a series of steps. It begins with the formal registration, where applications can be submitted online, and a reference from the current school is requested. Following this, applicants are invited to a group “Discovery Day” in late November, offering a firsthand experience of the College’s environment. For the next stage, an entrance interview is conducted in January, delving into the child’s family, interests, school life, and future aspirations. Those seeking scholarships undergo assessments, also taking place in January. Furthermore, the entrance exam, encompassing a Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT) and an English Assessment, is administered at this stage. As for Sixth Form applicants not undergoing GCSEs, subject-specific exams are required. The culmination occurs as the Head of Trent College extends offers based on the interview, reference, and assessment, usually within one week of the assessment. Finalizing the process, acceptance mandates a signed contract and deposit to secure the school place.

For Sixth Form entry, the route slightly shifts. Highlighting future plans and career aspirations takes precedence during the interview process and offers an opportunity to discuss subject options. Scholarship assessments are individually arranged for applicants, and for those currently pursuing GCSEs, no academic assessment is administered. However, applicants not undertaking GCSEs are subject to subject-specific exams. Conditional offers hinge on achieving at least five GCSEs at grade 6/B.
