Creative Disciplines and Facilities

Creative subjects are taught at every level, with Design and Technology mandatory through Year 9 before students can pursue them at GCSE and A Level. Music follows a similar path, becoming optional after Year 9 when some opt for examination courses in either Music or Music Technology. The facilities match these ambitions: two computer labs, a recording studio with an isolated booth, numerous practice spaces featuring Kawai and Yamaha pianos, plus a traditional darkroom alongside digital photography equipment where students even build their own cameras from basic materials.

The Art School

Worth’s Art School brings several creative disciplines together under one roof. Its bright, spacious studios host painting, sculpture, design, and photography, while modern workshops house laser cutters, 3D printers, and computers running professional design software. Drawing forms the foundation of all creative work here, with seniors attending weekly life-drawing sessions that balance academic technique with experimental approaches. The department operates an open-door policy, allowing students to develop their ideas and explore new materials whenever inspiration strikes.

Performing Arts at Worth School

The Drama department sets itself an ambitious goal: giving every student the chance to experience theatre’s transformative power. Annual productions range from classical plays to contemporary experiments, welcoming participants regardless of their experience. Beyond acting, students learn the technical side of theatre—lighting, sound, and stage management under the theatre manager’s guidance. Musical productions, created in collaboration with the Music department, have become particularly popular, with recent years bringing Les Misérables, Grease, and Little Shop of Horrors to the stage.

Musical Life

Singing holds a special place here. The Worth Schola Cantorum welcomes everyone without auditions, though it demands genuine commitment from its members. More experienced vocalists can audition for the Chamber Choir, and both ensembles regularly perform in Worth Abbey, whose medieval acoustics create an extraordinary concert atmosphere. The Symphony Orchestra unites over fifty instrumentalists, many playing at Grade 8 or beyond, while chamber ensembles—strings, winds, saxophones, and a jazz band—offer varied opportunities. Rock and pop enthusiasts showcase their talents at the termly Live Lounge concerts.
