The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Worth School
Nearly a third of students engage with this personal development program, which ranks among the most successful in southeast England’s independent schools. While all Year 9 participants begin at bronze level, those who progress to silver and gold commit to increasingly demanding challenges across four areas: volunteering, physical pursuits, skill acquisition, and expeditions. The gold tier includes a residential project that forges lasting friendships alongside valuable life experience.
Community Service
Worth School’s educational philosophy centers on caring for others, teaching students to prioritize community needs over personal desires. Throughout the academic year, participants of all ages engage in volunteer work that ranges from environmental projects and animal welfare to supporting primary schools, assisting elderly residents, and organizing charitable initiatives. This hands-on involvement demonstrates how individual actions create meaningful change.
Travel and Excursions
Students embark on diverse journeys each year, from day visits to museums and theaters to extended holiday expeditions. Recent adventures have included theatrical immersion in New York, musical tours around Lake Garda, and language programs in Paris and Barcelona. The calendar also features sports tours, charitable expeditions to Uganda and Borneo, alpine skiing in Austria and Italy, and an annual Lourdes pilgrimage, while Year 7 and 8 pupils develop teamwork and self-reliance through multi-day adventure camps.
