General Approach

American School of Madrid welcomes students from kindergarten through graduation, with families submitting applications via OpenApply. For those applying in autumn, the review period runs from March to August, while families relocating mid-year typically receive responses within two weeks. If spaces are limited, candidates join a waitlist and may be invited once vacancies arise. The application fee stands at €250 per child, covering all administrative processes including testing.

Document Requirements

Younger applicants need three years of school reports, a teacher recommendation, and a written English sample. Those entering middle or upper grades must demonstrate B2 English proficiency on the Cambridge scale or its TOEFL Junior equivalent. Additionally, they submit recommendations from math and English teachers, as well as a school counselor. When a student has an individualized plan, the admissions team reviews psycho-educational assessments to determine what support can be arranged.

Newcomer Adaptation

Before the academic year begins, American School of Madrid hosts an orientation where administration, parent volunteers, and student ambassadors connect with new families. Each newcomer receives a “buddy” from their class who guides them through initial weeks. School counselors organize activities that bring together both new and returning students, fostering connections and shared experiences. Meanwhile, the parent organization launches a Welcome Committee—volunteers who mentor families throughout the year and ease their integration into the community.

Tuition at American School of Madrid

Annual fees range from €11,593 for early childhood groups to €23,878 for graduating classes (2026 rates). Upon enrollment, families pay a €2,000 registration fee plus a one-time €6,000 campus development contribution. Each spring, the institution collects €950 to reserve a place for the following year. Payment options include annual, trimester, or monthly installments, though the latter carries a 4% administrative surcharge.
