History

Founding and Growth

Students at Bishop Montgomery High School are proud to be part of the first Catholic high school in Torrance, California. Founded in 1957 by Reverend William Ford, our school stands as a testament to the vision of providing quality Catholic education in the South Bay area. Named after George Thomas Montgomery, the inaugural American-born Bishop of the Diocese of Monterey-Los Angeles, our school has a rich history rooted in faith and community.

Supported by the Catholic Education Fund and constructed by McNeil Construction Co., Bishop Montgomery High School began with five buildings connected by covered walkways. Since then, our campus has undergone significant expansion and enhancement. We now boast modern facilities such as a gymnasium, student activity center, and the Schneider Retreat Center. Renovations have transformed our campus into a hub for STEAM education, featuring state-of-the-art facilities like robotics studios and digital arts labs.

Academic Excellence

At Bishop Montgomery High School, students have access to a rigorous curriculum that prepares them for success in higher education and beyond. With a wide array of Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors courses, our school ensures that students are challenged academically. Our graduates have gone on to attend prestigious institutions like UC Berkeley, Harvard University, and Columbia University, a testament to the quality of education they receive here.

Athletic Success

Our sports teams, known as “The Knights,” have a long history of success in various sports, frequently competing in state championships. Bishop Montgomery High School welcomes students from around the world, thanks to our partnership with Amerigo Education. Through this partnership, international students receive comprehensive support to help them integrate into our community and excel academically and socially.
