Badminton School provides diverse opportunities that extend beyond traditional academics. Their approach ranges from the distinctive Forest School program for younger students to comprehensive enrichment activities for older ones, fostering both intellectual growth and personal development while encouraging students to explore their interests in meaningful ways.
Program for Younger Students
In September 2015, Badminton School introduced its Forest School—a Scandinavian-inspired outdoor learning concept that builds resilience, concentration, and motivation. Each week, younger students engage with nature through activities like mud painting, discovering creatures in their “bug hotel,” cooking over open fires, and interacting with local flora and fauna across the school’s extensive outdoor space.
Middle School Enrichment
The middle school curriculum at Badminton School integrates subjects like PE, music, drama, dance, and art as core academic disciplines rather than mere extracurriculars. Students enhance their learning through diverse experiences—from engineering workshops at the Clifton Suspension Bridge to performing Cinderella in German and studying primate behavior at Jersey’s Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. The Duke of Edinburgh program, which begins in Year 9, attracts voluntary participation from most students.
Extended Learning Opportunities
Beyond the standard curriculum, students can pursue short courses in languages including Italian, Greek, Japanese, Chinese, and Russian, or take GCSE psychology. The Extended Project Qualification allows them to research self-chosen topics—previous projects have explored subjects from France’s 1940 defeat to Buddhist culture. With over 50 clubs available, sixth formers particularly engage through the Science Outreach program, while the school’s emphasis on public speaking develops presentation skills through national competitions.
