Extracurricular

Badminton School’s extracurricular program extends far beyond traditional academics, weaving together sports, arts, and specialized societies that support students throughout their developmental journey. These opportunities range from competitive athletics to creative pursuits, each designed to complement classroom learning while fostering individual growth and community engagement.

Opportunities for co-education in the lower grades

From their earliest years at Badminton, students explore activities that span languages, martial arts, and creative pursuits—whether learning Mandarin, practicing judo and fencing, or tending the school gardens. The 25-meter indoor pool hosts swimming galas alongside hockey and netball tournaments with neighboring schools. After lessons, clubs like art, orchestra, and French language draw regular participants, while Friday programs introduce newcomers to horseback riding, jewelry-making, and street dance.

Clubs for Middle School Students at Badminton School

Middle school students discover an ecosystem of clubs that extends their learning beyond conventional boundaries. Publication 1858 amplifies student voices, while Book Club brings together Years 7-9 around shared reading. Those drawn to classical studies can join the Classics Society, whereas the Computer and Cyber Discovery Club tackles contemporary digital challenges. Culinary Club develops kitchen skills, and the Debate Club hones persuasive communication. Drama Club participants engage in school productions, while Economics Society members discuss pressing financial questions. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award program operates at Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels.

Features in the Sixth Form

Sixth Form introduces opportunities that align with students’ emerging ambitions and interests. The two-year Apprentice of Fine Arts program nurtures creative writing, while Board Game Club offers relaxed social time. Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) allows for sustained independent research, and Law Society members engage in legal discourse. Peer Mentoring connects students who support their classmates, whereas Student Investor Club explores investment principles and financial management strategies.

Boarders enjoy diverse weekend and evening activities beyond their academic schedules—clubs, sports, music sessions, and community service all feature prominently, balanced with time for relaxation and friendship. Weekend excursions often include visits to Bristol Aquarium and Westfield shopping center, while seasonal trips take groups surfing on North Devon’s coast or exploring Christmas markets.
