Pastoral Care at Brighton College: Creating a Place of Support (As perceived by students)
Ensuring students at Brighton College feel safe, appreciated, and supported is a top priority for the college. We believe that nurturing a culture of kindness is essential for the well-being of every student, and it’s something we are committed to in every aspect of college life.
PSHE Lessons
A big part of our caring system is the Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) lessons. These classes are all about giving students the lowdown on making smart decisions, building good relationships, and leading lives that feel satisfying.
PSHE covers a lot of ground, including mental health, how to have healthy relationships, staying safe, and dealing with money. Our teachers know their stuff and are here to give students the guidance and help they need to do well.
Culture of Kindness
We are all about creating an environment where kindness and respect are a big deal. We really believe that when students feel safe and respected, they’re more likely to do well in both their studies and personal lives.
Our House system is one cool way we make this happen. Every student belongs to a House with its own captain, creating a close-knit community. We mix up year groups on purpose, so older students become trusted buddies for the younger ones. Plus, there are House competitions all year round, giving everyone a chance to show off their skills.
We don’t tolerate any bullying or harassment at our school. Our teachers and staff are trained to spot and stop any bullying ASAP. We work closely with parents and students to keep our school safe and supportive for everyone.

We’ve got all sorts of support services like one-on-one help, mental health support, academic backup, and advice on personal and social stuff.
Our experienced staff are here to guide and support you as you face challenges. This support works hand-in-hand with the PSHE lessons and the kindness initiatives we’ve got going on at the college. It’s all part of making sure you’ve got the help you need to succeed.
