Bromsgrove School combines British restraint with academic excellence. This is evidenced by its longstanding membership in the Conference of Independent Schools, as well as consistent graduate results on A-level and IB exams, which year after year confirm its reputation as one of the country’s strongest schools.
GCSE
Nearly half of students receive top grades of 8-9, while 65% pass exams at the A*/A equivalent — a record result since the programme was introduced. Last year, three graduates achieved maximum scores across all subjects, joining 732 such students nationwide. The strongest areas include English as a foreign language, mathematics and natural sciences, where over 60% of participants demonstrate grades of 8-9.
A-level
A-level remains one of the school’s defining strengths. 60% of students achieved top grades of A*/A, while 88% received excellent A*/B equivalents. In national rankings of independent schools, Bromsgrove entered the top 100, securing a place in the first fifty according to The Sunday Times. These results position the school alongside prestigious institutions like Wellington College, Dulwich College, Caterham School and Rugby School.
BTEC
Students pursuing sports science and engineering successfully complete the technical BTEC course with a 100% pass rate. 47% (21 students) receive the highest grade of D*, while twice as many achieve Distinction, demonstrating strong practical competencies alongside academic performance.
IB
The IB programme offered at Bromsgrove ranks among the world’s most outstanding. Students average 39.3 points out of a maximum 45, with half exceeding this benchmark and one achieving a perfect score. Within Britain, the school sits in the top 10 for IB, and internationally it has climbed from 25th to 14th place in just one year.
Universities
Strong academic performance opens doors to the country’s most prestigious universities. One-third of graduates annually enter QS World top-50 institutions, while two-thirds attend Russell Group universities. Each year, 9% of students gain admission to Oxbridge, with others choosing:
