Comprehensive Sports Program
At Brymore Academy, the sports program is varied and comprehensive. In the winter months, students participate in rugby, cross-country running, and hockey competitions held on the fields. The summer term is dedicated to athletics and cricket. Beyond these core sports, the academy offers an impressive range of activities, including volleyball, tennis, table tennis, sailing, mountain biking on a specially built track, and swimming in the outdoor pool.
This diversity ensures that every student can find a sport they enjoy, fostering a culture of physical activity and well-being.
Philosophy and Achievements of Brymore Academy
The sports ethics at Brymore Academy prioritize teamwork over individual glory, encouraging good behavior, adherence to rules, and a balanced spirit of competition. This philosophy has not only fostered a strong sense of community among the students but has also led to significant achievements.
The academy takes pride in having participated in the finals of the regional rugby tournament, and many students have received recognition at the district and national levels in rugby and athletics. These accomplishments highlight the academy’s commitment to developing each student’s potential, regardless of the scale of the competition.
Encouraging Participation and Leadership
Although extracurricular sports activities are voluntary, the majority of Brymore students engage in at least one sport and attend evening fitness sessions. This high level of involvement is a testament to the academy’s success in instilling a passion for physical activity.
Moreover, through the integration of GCSE and BTEC courses, students are actively encouraged to volunteer, support, and lead sports events. This emphasis on leadership development alongside physical skills underscores the academy’s dedication to fostering well-rounded individuals.
Traditions and Community at Brymore Academy
A unique tradition at Brymore Academy is the weekly “Chad’s Hill” run, a route of about two miles that all students must complete. This is not just a physical challenge but a rite of passage that strengthens the bond between students and the academy.
The sense of community is further enhanced by the fact that the vast majority of students represent the academy in some sport during their time here. This collective participation helps build a shared identity based on common experiences and achievements.
