Accommodation Options

Cardiff University operates a network of 18 residences that span everything from classic rooms with shared bathrooms to self-contained studios featuring private kitchens. This range allows students to find something that fits both their preferences and budget, with weekly rates for 2025/2026 starting at around £126 in Colum Road houses and reaching approximately £179 at Senghennydd Hall. Beyond standard rooms, some residences offer specialized accommodations—such as hearing loop systems or adapted spaces—for those who need them.

Amenities and Infrastructure

Most residences are organized into flats where four to eleven people share a kitchen and common area, which naturally helps newcomers connect with each other. For those who value quiet surroundings, Cardiff University has created designated peaceful zones where residents are matched with others seeking similar atmospheres. All buildings provide access to the university network and Wi-Fi, while several locations feature bike parking nearby. Though less common, there are also options available for couples and families with children.

Dining at Cardiff University

Students can choose between fully self-catered arrangements and partial meal plans. The latter operates in select residences including Senghennydd Hall, where residents receive hot lunch Monday through Friday at Julian Hodge Building or Trevithick between 13:00 and 18:30—convenient for dropping by between classes. Self-catering houses, on the other hand, give everyone access to shared kitchens where they can cook independently or together with flatmates. This approach costs less and offers more flexibility regarding ingredients and eating schedules.

Proximity to Academic Buildings

Most Cardiff University residences sit within a 10-20 minute walk from Main Building, though medical students often gravitate toward Clodien House since it’s just five minutes from Heath Park campus. Those studying economics or law find Colum Road particularly convenient—it stands directly across from the Business School and Law Faculty. Engineering and mathematics students, meanwhile, frequently settle in Adam Street Gardens, which puts them close to their respective buildings.
