Early Learning Stages

Between Years 7 and 9, Cobham Hall builds an educational foundation that combines academic disciplines with practical skill development. Students work through English, mathematics, and sciences while nurturing creative thinking in art, music, and drama. Those in Years 7 and 8 study both French and Spanish alongside dedicated literacy and numeracy sessions that strengthen core academic abilities. By Year 9, the program becomes more specialized—students choose one language to continue with, and sciences split into biology, chemistry, and physics. This refinement helps them make informed subject choices for GCSE by year’s end, while everyone begins working toward the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, which develops leadership and independence.

GCSE Program at Cobham Hall

During Years 10 and 11, students prepare for GCSE examinations through a focused subject selection. Everyone studies English, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, and Global Perspectives—a course that develops critical thinking through analysis of global issues. International students additionally take IGCSE English as a Second Language. Sciences can be studied in two formats: Triple Award offers in-depth coverage of all three disciplines and suits those planning to continue with sciences at A-Level, whereas Double Award covers the same topics less extensively. Beyond these core requirements, students select additional courses from:

  • History
  • Geography
  • French
  • Computer Science
  • Art and Design
  • Drama
  • Music

A-Level Program

Students at Cobham Hall typically study three A-Level subjects combined with an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)—a project universities value as equivalent to half a full A-Level. EPQ allows independent planning and execution of research, event organization, or artifact creation, developing project management and independent work skills. Recent student projects include organizing a Model United Nations conference and producing a complete magazine. Beyond examination subjects, the schedule incorporates additional sessions: meetings with mentors for individual support, sports activities, Future Perspectives for career planning, and Global Critical Thinking—a course examining complex global challenges like climate change and demographic shifts. Available A-Level subjects include:

  • Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics
  • English Literature
  • History, Geography, Politics, Psychology, Sociology
  • Economics, Business
  • Art and Design, Photography, Graphic Design
  • Drama and Theatre Studies, Music, Music Technology
  • Computer Science, Physical Education

Support for International Students

For international students whose English skills don’t yet meet A-Level requirements, Cobham Hall offers a three-year Sixth Form Foundation program. During the first year, they focus on an intensive “English as an Additional Language” course that refines reading, writing, and listening comprehension. Simultaneously, they can explore two or three A-Level subjects per term to determine their future specialization and adjust to academic expectations. This approach helps international students strengthen their language abilities while acquiring necessary mathematics and English qualifications that universities require, allowing them to transition smoothly into full A-Level study with a year of academic and linguistic preparation in the British educational environment behind them.
