Fall
Darrow School buzzes with energy as students dive into the fall sports season. Whether it’s the thrill of cross-country races, the teamwork on the soccer field, the adventures in outdoor education, or the discipline of mixed martial arts, there’s something for everyone to get involved in and push their limits.
Winter
When winter blankets the campus, the action doesn’t stop—it just moves indoors. Girls Varsity Basketball, led by Coach Don Singleton, and Boys Varsity Basketball, under the guidance of Coach Kris Magargal, take center stage, competing in the Housatonic Valley Athletic League. Meanwhile, Boys Prep Basketball, coached by Antonio Anderson, gears up for intense matchups in the NEPSAC AA bracket, shaping future NCAA players.
Spring
As the snow melts away, lacrosse and softball take the spotlight. Led by coaches John Villinski, Curt Evans, Will Grega, and Sam Tyler, these teams embody the spirit of spring, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Non-Competitive Program
For those who prefer a more laid-back approach to fitness, Darrow School offers a non-competitive athletic program. From outdoor fitness to alpine sports, strength training, and mixed martial arts, students can stay active and healthy in a supportive and inclusive environment, fostering lifelong habits of wellness.
Facilities and Support
At the heart of Darrow’s athletic program are its top-notch facilities and dedicated support services. The Dairy Barn Fitness Center provides students with access to machines and free weights for their workouts, while the Wickersham Health Center ensures their well-being with on-site medical care and access to a certified athletic trainer.
Traditions and Community
Beyond the games and practices, Darrow School’s athletic program fosters a sense of belonging and camaraderie among students. Sports banquets at the end of each season celebrate the achievements of student-athletes and teams, while Head’s Day—a spontaneous day off granted by the Head of School—adds an element of surprise and excitement to campus life.
In Summary
Darrow School’s athletic program offers something for everyone, whether you’re a competitive athlete aiming for victory or someone looking to stay active and healthy in a supportive environment. With a diverse range of sports, excellent facilities, and a strong sense of community, Darrow empowers students to thrive both on and off the field.
